Fighting Chance is America’s oldest and largest free cancer counseling center that operates on a regional basis, in our case the Eastern End of Long Island, which is about 600 square miles and largely semi-rural. Because of our regional service model, we can (and do) have a walk-in office in Sag Harbor where patients will find “boots on the ground.” That means licensed health care professionals – including a clinical psychologist and oncology social workers – who can meet with the patient in person. In person counseling is the “gold standard” when helping a newly-diagnosed cancer patient cope with the negative psychological effects of cancer that include hyper-anxiety, depression, insecurity, and sleeplessness. In-person counseling is better, by far, than telephone calls, email counseling, chat rooms, or the use of two-way videos. As of 2019, Fighting Chance has added a second patient counseling office within the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Phillips Family Cancer Center to facilitate the ongoing need for our free cancer counseling services. After trimming off all of the fat, we then hand slice and inspect each piece to insure the highest quality. No two pieces are the same size or shape. Unlike the mass produced variety that is pressed and or cut by machine from mystery parts. The meat is then marinated for 24 hours in our 23-year-old family recipes. No MSG or nitrates are added, and we do not use fillers like corn syrups or solids. The JERKY is then dehydrated for 2 to 4 hours depending on the cut. Provides the Southampton Food Pantry and Assistance Programs to people in need. More than 42 years ago, members of the Southampton, NY community came together and founded an organization to help those in need. A small Food Pantry and an emergency Assistance Outreach were launched. The organization continued to grow, and in 2003, Heart of the Hamptons officially became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Over the years, HOH has developed a network of programs and established community partnerships to strengthen outreach and effectiveness. Jeff’s interest in music began at the age of 14. After he purchased his first electric guitar, and not having any formal guitar lessons, he began to teach himself how to play with an Alfred's lesson book set. Growing up on Long Island in Kings Park NY there never seemed to be shortage of guitar players and garage bands during the 1970‘s. Most of his musical knowledge began at Kings Park High School, after he was picked by Mr. Barney, the musical director as the guitar player for the H.S. jazz band. To promote an understanding and appreciation of African American culture. In the late 40’s Emanuel Seymore a carpenter and barber by trade ventured out to uncharted territories from North Carolina during the Great Migration and had the audacity to purchase land in “ The Hamptons”. The edifice he built was half barbershop and half beauty parlor which Evelyn Baxter was the beautician. In 1969 Randy Conquest purchased the barbershop until its closing thereafter the Southampton Town Community Preservation Fund purchased the building. Fast forward the Southampton African American Museum (dba/SAAM) began in 2005 under the official name as The East End African American Museum and Center for Excellence. The museum gain their non profit status in March of 2008. In 2010, the Village Historic Preservation Board unanimously designated it as the first African American historic landmark in the Village of Southampton, and the process was started to transform it into our permanent space.
