Our Story

A Century of East End Excellence

The Southampton Chamber of Commerce fosters economic growth, advocates for local businesses, and builds a vibrant community on Long Island's South Fork.

Our Mission

We Are a Community for All Seasons

The Southampton Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit business organization dedicated to Southampton and the South Fork of Long Island.

It is our mission to attract, promote, retain and develop business in the Southampton Township, and provide visitor information on Southampton and the South Fork of Long Island. The Chamber maintains a year-round information office on Main Street in the Village of Southampton.

The Chamber was established to promote the East End and help bring tourism into the community. It is administered by local business people who serve without pay, driven by their interest in the community and the promotion of Southampton and its surrounding areas.

History

From Main Street Associations to a Village Institution

  • The East End Businessmen's Association
  • The Hampton Road Businessmen's Association
  • The Businessmen's Association of Main St. & Jobs Lane
  • The Southampton Association

“The Chamber was needed not only to keep the business concerns in one central location, but also communicate with the prospective visitor.”

Village Hall had been receiving numerous letters requesting information on this wonderful “beach resort.”

The Chamber originated from several early business associations on the East End. In the summer of 1950, Bob Keene opened a bookstore in the Pelletreau silver shop building for $50 a month. He was having a hard time making ends meet and was grateful when he was offered the job of “secretary” for the East End Businessmen's Association, the forerunner of the Southampton Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

What began as a practical response to visitor inquiries became a lasting institution — one that still connects businesses, residents, and travelers to everything Southampton has to offer.
